Psychiatric Evaluation

A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of your mental health, medical history, current symptoms, and treatment goals. During your initial evaluation, your psychiatrist will take the time to understand your full picture before making any diagnostic or treatment recommendations. You’ll leave with a working diagnosis, an explanation of treatment options, and a clear plan for next steps.

Medication Management

Medication management is ongoing psychiatric care focused on optimizing your medications safely and effectively over time. We practice thoughtful prescribing — aiming for the minimum effective treatment, avoiding unnecessary polypharmacy, and regularly reviewing whether each medication is still serving you. Follow-up appointments are typically every 2 weeks to 2 months depending on where you are in treatment.

Anxiety

Anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and related conditions. Symptoms may include persistent worry, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, muscle tension, and avoidance. Effective treatment typically combines medication with lifestyle adjustments and, when indicated, referral to therapists for ongoing therapy.

Depression

Depression is more than feeling sad. It’s a clinical condition affecting energy, sleep, appetite, concentration, and the ability to enjoy life. Treatment may include antidepressant medications, careful monitoring of response, and discussion of lifestyle factors that support recovery. If therapy is part of your treatment plan, we refer to outside therapists who can provide that work.

Bipolar and Mood Disorders

Bipolar disorder involves cycles of mood states — periods of depression alternating with elevated, irritable, or expansive mood (mania or hypomania). Treatment focuses on mood stabilization using carefully selected medications. Accurate diagnosis is critical — bipolar disorder is frequently misdiagnosed, which can lead to ineffective treatment. We take time to make sure the diagnosis is right.

ADHD (Adult)

Adult ADHD often goes under-recognized but significantly affects work, relationships, and daily functioning. Treatment typically involves medication (stimulants or non-stimulants) combined with behavioral strategies. Diagnosis requires thorough evaluation, not just symptom checklists. We follow current clinical guidelines and prescribe responsibly.

Schizophrenia and Psychotic Disorders

Schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders involve disruptions in thinking, perception, and behavior. These conditions are serious but treatable. We provide ongoing medication management for patients with stable psychotic disorders who are appropriate for outpatient telehealth care. Acute or unstable cases may require higher levels of care.

Sleep Problems

Sleep disorders frequently coexist with psychiatric conditions and often worsen them. Evaluating sleep problems requires understanding contributing factors — anxiety, depression, medication effects, lifestyle, and primary sleep disorders. We’re cautious with sleep medications and focus on identifying and treating underlying causes.

Stress and Burnout

Burnout often overlaps with depression and anxiety, and the distinction matters for treatment. We help you understand what’s contributing — workload, sleep deficits, unaddressed mood or anxiety — and develop an approach that targets the real drivers. Treatment may involve medication, lifestyle conversations, and therapy referrals when appropriate.

Substance Use and Addiction

Substance use disorders are treatable medical conditions. We provide outpatient psychiatric care for adults with alcohol, opioid, and other substance use concerns, including medication-assisted treatment with buprenorphine (Suboxone) for opioid use disorder. We refer to higher levels of care when needed.
